| Panthers Flashback: Jan. 5, 1997 January 4 Charlotte Observer " Ericsson Stadium, Panthers 26, Cowboys 17 In one of the biggest sports days in Charlotte history, the Panthers played their first-ever playoff game against the reigning Super Bowl champion Cowboys, who were led by future Hall-of-Famers Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin. Anthony Johnson rushed for 104 yards, and the Panthers sacked Aikman twice in the victory. Irvin broke his collarbone on the second play of the game, a hit he remembers to this day. The victory set up a date in the NFC Championship Game the next week against Green Bay. " | |
