Golden Lab Leads To Mail Ban At Lodi House Reporting
Edmundo Aguilar LODI, Calif. (CBS13) ―
Mail delivery has been permanently halted at a Lodi home because the owner lets his Golden Labrador dog roam in front of his house.
Jack Casey was told by his local postmaster that he will no longer have mail sent to his house because of Nick, a Golden Lab. Casey says Nick is harmless, and is even certified to visit people in hospitals as a form of therapy.
"The fact that they're treating him that way, it kinda hurts," Casey said. "He's like a child. It's like saying my child is dangerous."
Casey says his mail was stopped last month without warning. His wife was waiting for medication to come in at the time, and Casey says he went to the post office to find out why they had stopped delivering.
"The mentioned that the carrier actually came across the street when they were doing their route, saw that Nick was out with my wife, and didn't deliver to the entire block," Casey said.
Lodi postmaster Beverly Leymaster says four of her carriers have been bitten by dogs in the past year, and that Casey was warned twice about leaving his dog out front. He will have to pay $90 for a post office box if he wants his mail.
"It's very frustrating," Casey said. "There's no appeal process. It's done."
The only chance he has is getting mail delivered to his home again is by taking his complaint to U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer.Link
