Elderly woman seriously injured when ute smashes into house
AN elderly woman is lucky to be alive after a ute smashed into her lounge and pinned her to a couch.
The ute slammed into the 78-year-old’s Cheltenham home just after midnight, crashing through the front fence into her loungeroom and pinning her underneath.
A young man handed himself in at Moorabin Police after the accident. Police arrested three other males about 7.30am.
Police said it remained uncertain who was driving the ute.
It is alleged the driver fled the scene without offering the injured woman assistance.
The woman was eventually freed from the car by Metropolitan Fire Brigade officers and treated by paramedics at the scene before being rushed to the Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.
An MFB spokesman said she suffered lacerations to her face and her legs were seriously injured.
Police said the woman's injuries were not life-threatening.
