Safety Nick Ferguson, who started nine games last season, re-signed with the Texans on Thursday.
Ferguson, 34, is a nine-year veteran who came to the Texans last season from Denver, where he played for five seasons. He's expected to compete for a starting job with second-year strong safety Dominique Barber next to free safety Eugene Wilson.
Ferguson is the fifth player to re-sign with the Texans, joining Wilson, tight end Joel Dreessen, center Chris White and defensive end Stanley McClover.
The Texans matched the offer receiver David Anderson received from Denver, and they signed two free agents from other teams -- defensive end Antonio Smith and quarterback Dan Orlovsky.
