| Panthers tender King, Anderson, not Gibson The Panthers showed a strong committment to restricted free agent tight end Jeff King by giving him a one-year tender offer ($1.545 million) that would require another team making an offer sheet to give up a second-round pick if Carolina chose not to match the offer. That should assure that King will be back next season.
Linebacker James Anderson received the lower tender of $1.01 million, meaning teams trying to obtain him via offer sheet would have to surrender a pick from the same round he was originally chosen (third).
The Panthers gave the higher tender to King because he originally was a fifth-round pick in the 2006 draft.
The Panthers did not make a tender offer to defensive tackle Gary Gibson (undrafted).
Still awaiting word on whether they tendered safety Nate Salley, who was an '06 fourth round pick. Link | |
