NO HERM IN TAMPA

Despite some tea leaves suggesting that former Bucs defensive backs coach Herm Edwards, who has said that if he coaches in 2009 it will be as a defensive backs coach, could assume the same position he vacated eight years ago when he became head coach of the Jets, it looks like Herm won’t be serving a second tour in Tampa.
Per Pewter Report, the Buccaneers are close to hiring Joe Baker to serve as defensive backs coach.
Baker most recently served as the linebackers coach in Denver.
Though plenty of Bucs fans liked the idea of the coaching staff being bolstered by a guy like Edwards, the reality was/is that 32-year-old first-time head coach Raheem Morris already has enough to worry about. It makes little sense to add to his burden the necessity of making sure Edwards can handle a much lower spot on the totem pole after eight seasons as the top dog with the Jets and the Chiefs.
