Cardinals to face Panthers in Saturday's playoff
January 5 East Valley Tribune
"The Arizona Cardinals will meet the Carolina Panthers in an NFC divisional playoff game Saturday at 6:15 p.m.
The matchup was secured when the Philadelphia Eagles upset the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, 26-14. As the lowest-seeded team left in the NFC, Philadelphia will play the No. 1 seed New York Giants on Sunday, while the Cardinals take on the No. 2 seed Panthers.
Arizona should have some confidence against the Panthers despite losing at Carolina on Oct. 26. The Cardinals had a 17-3 lead in the third quarter but committed two turnovers that the Panthers turned into touchdowns en route to a 27-23 victory over Arizona.
Quarterback Kurt Warner had a field day, throwing for 381 yards and two touchdowns, but running backs Edgerrin James and Tim Hightower combined for just 20 yards on 13 carries.
As was the case with Atlanta, Arizona's defense will be challenged by a punishing ground game. Carolina ranked third in the NFL with 152.3 yards per game. DeAngelo Williams rushed for 1,515 yards and 18 touchdowns, and rookie Jonathan Stewart contributed 836 yards and 10 scores.
The Cardinals had Sunday off."
