Brett Favre's 2009 choice still on hold
February 3

"Now that the NFL season is over, the Brett Favre watch officially begins. Don't expect a quick announcement from the Jets' quarterback.
Favre, 39, mulling retirement, is going to take at least two to three weeks before declaring his intentions, a league source said Sunday. Ideally, the Jets would like a decision by Feb. 18, the start of the scouting combine, but they're willing to wait longer, if necessary, the source said.
The key date is Feb. 27, the start of free agency and the trading period. GM Mike Tannenbaum and Favre spoke last week about the future Hall of Famer's future, NBC Sports reported yesterday.
The Jets have stated publicly that they want Favre to return in 2009, with the most emphatic endorsement coming from owner Woody Johnson.
Favre is due to make $13 million in 2009. The Jets are projected to be $10 million over the salary cap, so Favre's decision will be a huge factor in their cap planning."
