Sources: 'Paramaters' of Haynesworth deal discussed

"Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt and the agent for Albert Haynesworth spoke last Thursday and "paramaters have been discussed" on a contract extension for the defensive tackle, sources familiar with the situation told The City Paper.

However, a report characterizing the talks as “major negotiations" would be overreaching, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The Titans have not made any contract offers as of yet to Haynesworth.

The Titans have said they want to retain Haynesworth, who played under the $7.25 million franchise tag last season and earned his way out from under it again by reaching incentives built into his tender offer. He would be eligible to be an unrestricted free agent on Feb. 27, and the Titans would be better served trying to sign him before he gets a chance to get on the open market.

Haynesworth has said he is amenable to staying with the organization that drafted him in 2002. However, he is likely seeking a contract that will put him among the highest paid defensive linemen in the NFL.

The Titans have not commented on Haynesworth’s negotiations since acknowledging contact with his agent on Dec. 29, the first day negotiations could begin. Haynesworth’s agent Chad Speck was unavailable for comment. Between that first contact late in December until last week, there apparently had been very little dialogue between the two sides."
