"Cleveland Browns owner Randy Lerner told reporters this morning he has received permission to talk to New England Patriots executive vice president Scott Pioli about the club’s now-vacant general manager post.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick avoided discussion on the topic during his press conference late this morning.
Lerner fired general manager Randy Savage last night and head coach Romeo Crennel was let go this morning. The Browns lost to the Steelers, 31-0, yesterday to finish the season 4-12. Cleveland’s offense set an NFL record by going 24 quarters without a touchdown to close the year out.
Lerner had eyed former Steelers coach Bill Cowher to take over in Cleveland but during a Saturday night meeting, Cowher informed Lerner that he was not interested."
