Plaxico Burress was driving without insurance before May crash

"The legal troubles of Giants' star Plaxico Burress continued to mount Monday when a Florida woman sued him, claiming she was injured when he slammed into her car.
Alise Smith, 27, of Miami said she suffered neck and back injuries in May when a tailgating Burress rear-ended her 1997 Ford Probe with his $140,000 Mercedes-Benz.
Compounding Burress' problems was that he failed to make his insurance payments and his Allstate coverage was terminated three days before the crash.
"She's got a couple of herniated discs, which she's still being treated for," Smith's attorney, Adam Dougherty said Monday, adding that his client's medical bills have surpassed $16,000.
"We always try to resolve these things before we have to litigate the cases," Dougherty added. "Unfortunately, we have not had any fruitful attempts of resolving this case with Mr. Burress."
The suit comes as Burress is dealing with gun charges stemming from a Nov. 29 incident in which he accidently shot himself in the leg with a .40-caliber Glock while in a Manhattan nightclub.
The Giants suspended the millionaire receiver for the season following the harebrained mishap at the Latin Quarter on Lexington Ave.
Burress' Florida attorney, Adam Swickle, could not be reached for comment on the suit filed in Broward County Circuit Court.
Smith claims Burress, who has a home in Lighthouse Point, Fla., was driving "negligently" when he crashed into the rear of her car May 16 on an entrance ramp to the Florida Turnpike in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Tamarac."
