All's quiet so far on the free-agent front in Eric Mangini's first year as Browns coach.
Coach Eric Mangini wasn't bluffing when he said the Browns probably wouldn't make a big splash in free agency. The first wave came and went with nary a ripple from the Browns.
New York Giants free-agent safety James Butler, who spent Saturday visiting the Rams, left St. Louis without a deal, but hadn't visited Cleveland as of Sunday, his agent Carl Poston said in a text message. He is reportedly still talking to St. Louis, where he'd be reunited with new head coach Steve Spagnuolo, his coordinator the past two seasons in New York.
The Browns had tentative plans to host Dolphins cornerback Andre Goodman if he didn't sign with Denver, but he signed a five-year, $25 million contract with the Broncos, the Associated Press reported. Goodman's deal is worth up to $25.2 million, with more than $10 million of it guaranteed.
Sportingnews.com reported New York Jets free-agent defensive lineman C.J. Mosley is tentatively scheduled to visit the Browns if he doesn't sign with the Jaguars during his visit there today. Mosley (6-2 and 305) would play end in the Browns' 3-4 scheme.
The Browns had a quiet weekend after trading Kellen Winslow to Tampa Bay on Friday for a second- round pick this year and a fifth-rounder in 2010.
